100 Hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training Course Content further explained:

1. Anatomy and Physiology

In the 20 hours Anatomy and Physiology part of our training we will study muscles, joints and bones of the body to understand and be able to break down each yin yoga pose, gaining a thorough anatomical body awareness so we can assist each individual student. This deep understanding of anatomy also provides us with knowledge of how to deal with injuries and contraindications of the body.

Additionally we will look at the anatomic theories of a Yin and Yang yoga practice. Skeletal structure and set up is another area of great importance – we will explore the bones and joints of the body.

Fascia (connective tissue) is also of great importance in Yin yoga – we will look into the myofacial compartments of the main muscle groups of the body as well as the deeper fascia of the body that we work in our Yin yoga practice.

The A&P component of the course is theoretical as well as hands on learning.

2. Yoga Physiology, Meridians and Chakras – this is the component filled with energy!

We are studying the body’s Meridian lines and Chakras. We are exploring Chi and Pranaflow so we can understand its power and what we can do in poses, with breath, to increase and stimulate our energies, creating health.

We will connect the meridians to the organs and also look into what poses will stimulate each meridian line. After this course you will know the main meridian lines and be able to implement them into your teachings.

This component also gives you a greater understanding of what Chi is, where Chi is and how it flows, how we can aid our Chi and contain our Chi inside for better longevity and vitality.

To learn thoroughly about Meridians, Chi and Chakras we study the theory behind it as well as putting the theories and our understanding of it all into practice so we get to feel first hand the power of these mystic fields that we all are made of.

3. Yin Yoga Philosophy, Ethics and Lifestyle

Wowen into the teachings of our Yin yoga teacher training are ancient philosophies and studies from texts such as The Hatha Yoga Pradipika. We will gain insights into where Yin Yoga originates, the Indian Tantric traditions and the Chinese Taoism traditions.

We will further understand the difference in Yin and Yang practices and why Yin is currently increasing in the yoga world.

The Yin and Yang concepts will be explored in life, the universe, in poses and in each individual.

4. Theory and Practice of Yoga Techniques – to find the depth of body, mind and heart.

This component contains the study of the body’s range of motion in poses, analysing poses, joints and positioning of the body’s different areas to adjust each individual student in the best way.

Exploring tension vs compression of the body’s tissues and joints and bones. By knowing what compression and tension is, you will be able to adjust each individual correctly, guiding them to feel the purpose and benefit of the pose.

All main Yin poses are broken down and explored to enable the teachers full understanding of the body, mind, heart, meridian lines and chi flow.

Breathing, relaxation and meditation will be discussed and explored. This will all be studied in Yin Yoga class examples, as well as a hands-on approach as we learn by doing exercises.

5. Teaching and Sequencing Techniques

We will learn and explore how to teach and sequence our Yin Yoga classes from a physical aspect through to the utmost energetic layer.

How to put poses together and how to deliver a theme for the class. This component is a lot about how to handle your Yoga Tribe and how to teach and reach each and every student, even though in a class scenario, so it benefits them the most. Learning how to speak your students language.

100 Hour Yin Yang Yoga Therapy TT Course Content further explained:

  1. Anatomy and Physiology

Upper Body Anatomy and Yin Poses.

In the Anatomy and Physiology part of the course we will continue to study the body at the cellular and fascia levels, then out to the more superficial layers of the body. We will gain further understanding of the upper body, its bones, muscles and the upper body tissues. Building on our previous knowledge of the lower body and spine.

This is studied so we can understand the upper body and its range of motion in our Yin Yoga practice while practicing any original Yin pose. Through this course we will add a number of extra upper body Yin poses to our teaching toolbox.

As always, the goal is to gain a thorough anatomical body awareness so that we can assist each individual student, and understand how to deal with each student’s unique of range of motion as well as any injuries that they may have. We will continue to examine range of motion and the anatomical theories of Yin and Yang yoga practice.

To feed your inner fascia nerd, of course there will be further diving into the matrix of fascia and its magic. The A&P component of the course involves theoretical as well as hands-on learning.

  1. Yoga Physiology, Meridians, Chi and Energy Flow

We will continue to study the body’s meridian lines and trigger points to further feel and understand energy flow. We will explore chi flow from a Yin and a Yang perspective with the aim to be able to use this energy power in poses and in life. This is a lot about how to balance and nurture the Yin and Yang energies, to create more physical, emotional and energetic health. Therapeutically balancing our own practice and ‘Being’ as well as gaining the ability to apply this therapy to our students.

A Painful component: in addition, to be able to assist our students to their full health and happiness therapeutically we need to have a thorough understanding of pain and how we all feel pain differently to one another. We will look into physical and emotional pain and examine what pain is.

  1. Yin Yang Yoga Philosophy, Ethics and Lifestyle

The balance between Yin and Yang is seen everywhere in life and the Universe, this will be explored by using our senses to feel where balance resides. We will look at the different elements of ancient traditions (moving towards the Indian elements) to better understand each individual and how we all need to balance our ‘Being’ differently.

With the understanding of the Indian five Elements (mixed with the elements of TCM that we covered in level 1), the aim is to learn how to access and understand your students and their full ‘Being’, to then apply the medicine that is needed – to provide each individual with their own practice so they will gain the most benefit. This a functional and therapeutic approach to yoga on a physical, mindful and energetic level.

We will dive deep in to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Gaining understanding of the Sutras, getting to know Patanjali and his reasoning behind the Sutras, as well as bringing the Sutras to life in our practice and everyday life. This knowledge will feed into being able to provide our students with that therapeutic assistance, and bring yoga into everyday life for happier living.

Lectures will also be held on Swami Sri Yukteswar’s ‘Yuga theory’ of how our world goes through different ages – from dark ages to enlightened ages. This will add a greater understanding of yoga and the ‘bigger picture’ – where we come from, where we are and where we are going.

  1. Theory and Practice of Yoga Techniques – a functional approach to all types of yoga

We will continue to study of the body’s way of moving. Analysing poses & looking at joints, looking at the positioning and interrelationship of the body’s different areas and how to adjust the student in the best way. This time with more emphasis on the upper body.

As we further understand that there is no ‘one size fits all’ yoga pose, we will gain further understanding on how to teach a more functional approach to our faster moving yoga such as Hatha and Vinyasa yoga.

We will also introduce a number of Yang sequences to balance with your Yin yoga poses. This practice is a beautiful way to feel the Yin and the Yang differences as well as add to your teaching repertoire – a whole different style of teaching yoga.

These teachings will further develop our ability to adjust and assist each individual correctly. The added awareness of the upper body and the Yang sequences will provide a greater understanding of the physical, emotional and energetic bodies. A greater understanding of ‘the whole picture’.

Continued study and practice of meditation will take our awareness even further into the depth of each individual ‘Being’.

  1. Teaching and Sequencing Techniques

We will gain more familiarity with queueing and sequencing Yin, Yang and other forms of yoga classes, whilst staying true to the anatomical ‘real deal’ of each ‘Being’.

This will further enable you to sequence a functional Hatha, Yin or Yang class – where as we know, every student is different and will feel the pose in a different way.

400 Hour Functional Hatha TT Course Content further explained:

Anatomy and Physiology 50 Hours (30 hours Foundation Anatomy and Physiology + 20 hours Functional Anatomy)

30 hours of foundation Anatomy and Physiology

The first component of anatomy is a 30-hour foundation course where we develop a thorough understanding of the parts musculoskeletal system from the bones and out to the muscles.

20 Hours of Advanced Functional Anatomy

Having the foundation of human anatomy we can now further look at the individual ways of how we are all unique and putting this uniqueness into our yoga teaching, poses and practice.

What is functional anatomy?

A way to see the body/being as a whole system – how it all interlinks and interpenetrates for each unique individual. We all have a unique skeleton that works in our own individual way so our asana needs to be aligned with our uniqueness.

What happens to us physically will affect us emotionally and energetically and what happens to us emotionally and energetically will affect us physically.

This functional anatomy course is set up to get us, teachers, to be able to give each individual student more benefit in their practice. Hopefully, we will start to look at our students as an individual and be able to give them the support needed for them in each and every asana.

“Teach what is appropriate for each individual.”

(Tirumalai Krishnamacharya)

Yogic Physiology 30 Hours

In this component, the emphasis is on gaining understanding and awareness about energy, energy fields and the Universal connection that our yoga practice aim to move us towards understanding.

“When one rises above the three gunas that originate in the body; one is freed from birth, old age, disease, and death; and attains enlightenment” (Bhagavad Gita 14.20).

Through this component, we will look at the history of the tantric yoga ways to understand and gain insight into these energy systems. Throughout this teacher training, our main yogic text is the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali that we aim to tie into any of the teachings here appropriate. Living our yoga on and off the mat.

Philosophy, Ethics and Lifestyle 50 Hours

Living our yoga mindfully and consciously off and on the mat continuous all the way through the training and a big part of it is our study of yogic philosophies.

Theory and Practice of Yoga Techniques 170 Hours

Chanting, meditation, pranayama and asana will be practised daily each time we meet as a group.

We will explore and learn basic chants and the meaning and purpose of them. throughout the training, we will provide a new level to our meditation practice that is guided by an experienced teacher. We will explore pranayama and understand the importance of it as well as experiencing a variety of pranayama techniques such as Ujjayi, Kapalabhati, Viloma and Bhastrika.

Additionally, it is required for each teacher trainee to establish a home practice as well as practising at a studio, guided by a teacher, at least 3 times per week.

This component is theoretical, practical, as well as guided by teachers. It is important to feel the practice for the trainee themselves as well as understanding the theory behind it and being educated from experienced teachers.

The Theory and Practice of Yoga Techniques, of course, goes hand in hand with Teaching Methodology.
