It is a 6 week training with pre-recorded videos and weekly Zoom lectures with Mysan. Each week feeds into the next as you learn the foundation of anatomy, range of motion, asana in movement and more. The knowledge gained in this training is essential for any yoga teacher aiming to teach safe, well educated, sophisticated and powerful classes. The knowledge gained in ‘Love Your Bones’ will perfectly prepare us for the studies in the Maldives. Functional anatomy for the foundations of Yin Yoga with Mysan Sidbo The first part of our Yin Yoga teacher training will give trainees a thorough understanding of the anatomy needed when teaching Yin Yoga. We will focus greatly on the axis of the body for full understanding of the original Yin Yoga poses and anatomy in motion. This will provide the trainee with the power to teach intelligent Yin Yoga classes with integrity and success. After all, we are guiding students to move their body, so knowledge of our anatomy is an essential. We explore the body from the depths of the skeleton and out to the more superficial fascia. This module builds on the knowledge learnt in ‘Love Your Bones’. Chinese Medicine with Sofie Ringsten Module 2 will give a deep understanding of the foundations of Chinese Medicine practices and theories. We will study the energetic aspects of Yin Yoga and how it relates to Chinese Medicine. Functional anatomy for upper body Yin Yoga with Mysan Sidbo The second part of our anatomy and physiology is aimed to shine a light on the upper body and the upper body poses of our Yin Yoga practice. Building on our previous anatomy knowledge. Chinese Medicine with Sofie Ringsten In Module 4 we adventure further into Chinese medicine. We will explore the theory of the five elements as well as the emotional and spiritual aspects of Chinese Medicine. Anatomy meets yoga philosophy with Mysan Sidbo By now we will have gained a thorough understanding of anatomy from the skeleton and out to our more superficial tissues. Each module leads us further, connecting us deeper. Module 5 will continue with anatomy insights into the brain, the nervous system and our cells. We will explore how to yin your nervous system and brain. We will practice and understand how you as a modern yogi in a physical body can benefit by implementing the ancient yoga philosophy as a lifestyle and a medicine. Chinese Medicine with Sofie Ringsten In Module 6 we are studying the acupuncture points, the different categories of points, and which points are suitable to use in a Yin Yoga class. We also add further therapy tools from Chinese Medicine, by learning gua sha therapy. When you have successfully completed your 200 hour Yin yoga Teacher Training you will be ready to teach intelligent, inspiring, and profound Yin Yoga classes. You will be able to assist each individual student in class, giving them ‘the medicine they need’ for them and them alone. All this while holding space for the entire class to functionally find their individual pose, feel their own practice and therefore evolve to further health and happiness within their yoga and in life. Successful completion of this training will accredit the trainee with a 200 Hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training Certificate. This training is registered with the World Yoga Alliance. For full information sheet, curriculum and application form, please email Mysan Sidbo hello@theonlineyogasanctuary.com or Sofie Ringsten www.maldivesyoga.com The level 2 training’s prerequisite is to have completed level 1 Yin Teacher Training with Mysan Sidbo. The level 2 training brings the upper body into Yin yoga. Bringing Yin further than the axis (pelvis and spine) of the body. It will provide a thorough understanding of how to therapeutically assist students to health and happiness from Yin and Yang Yoga perspectives, merging with the ancient texts of Patanajli, Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Five Elements. The trainee will develop a deep understanding of the anatomy and the upper body, as well as insights into fascia, cells, neurobiology. We will add poses for the upper body, creating a bigger repertoire of Yin asana for the teacher to sequence from. The Yang component adds a series of yang flow practices, complementing the Yin practices wonderfully. There are elements of fascia and emotional therapy weaved throughout training, to prepare the teacher to handle physical and emotional releases that may occur in a yoga practice. Upper Body Anatomy and Yin Poses. In the Anatomy and Physiology part of the course we will continue to study the body at the cellular and fascia levels, then out to the more superficial layers of the body. We will gain further understanding of the upper body, its bones, muscles and the upper body tissues. Building on our previous knowledge of the lower body and spine. This will provide us the understanding of the upper body, its tissues and its range of motion in our Yin Yoga practice while in any of the ‘original’ Yin poses. It will provide the trainee the ability to take up the knowledge of the new upper body poses that we add to our teaching toolbox throughout this training. As always, the goal is to gain a thorough anatomical body awareness so that we can assist individual students and understand how to deal with each student’s unique range of motion as well as any injuries that they may have. We will continue to examine range of motion and the anatomical theories of Yin and Yang yoga practice. To feed your inner fascia nerd, of course there will be further diving into the matrix of fascia and its magic. The A&P component of the course involves theoretical as well as hands-on learning. We will continue to study the body’s meridian lines to further feel and understand energy flow. We will explore chi flow from a Yin and a Yang perspective with the aim to be able to use this energy power in poses and in life. This is a lot about how to balance and nurture the Yin and Yang energies, to create more physical, emotional, and energetic health. Therapeutically balancing our own practice and ‘Being’ as well as gaining the ability to apply this therapy to our students. Additionally, to therapeutically be able to assist our students to their full health and happiness we need to have a thorough understanding of pain and how we all feel pain differently to one another. We will investigate physical and emotional pain and examine what pain is. The balance between Yin and Yang is seen everywhere in life and the Universe, this will be explored by using our senses to feel where balance resides. We will look at the different elements of ancient traditions and new science to better understand each individual and how we all need to balance our ‘Being’ differently. With this the aim is to learn how to access and understand your students and their full ‘Being’, then to apply the medicine that is needed – to provide each individual with their own practice so they will gain the most benefit. This is a functional and therapeutic approach to yoga on a physical, mindful and energetic level. We will dive deep into Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Gaining a thorough understanding of parts of the Sutras, getting to know Patanjali and his reasoning behind the Sutras, as well as bringing the Sutras to life in our practice and everyday life. This knowledge will feed into being able to provide our students with that therapeutic assistance and bringing yoga into everyday life for happier living. We will continue to study the body’s range of motion. Analysing poses & looking at joints, looking at the positioning and interrelationship of the body’s different areas and how to adjust the student in the best way. This time with more emphasis on the upper body. As we further understand that there is no ‘one size fits all’ yoga pose, we will gain further understanding on how to teach a more functional approach to our faster moving yoga such as Hatha and Vinyasa yoga. We will also introduce several Yang sequences to balance with your Yin yoga poses. This practice is a beautiful way to feel the Yin and the Yang differences as well as adding to your teaching repertoire – a whole different style of teaching yoga. We will work further in developing our ability to adjust and assist each person correctly. The added awareness of the upper body and the Yang sequences will provide a greater understanding of the physical, emotional, and energetic bodies. A further understanding of ‘the whole picture’. Continuing study and practice of meditation will take our awareness even further into the depth of each Being. We will gain more familiarity with queueing and sequencing yoga classes, whilst staying true to the anatomical ‘real deal’ of each ‘Being’. This will further enable you to sequence a functional Yin or Yang class – where as we know, every student is different and will feel the pose in a different way. Practicing, teaching, and assisting is a constant component in this training – it is a very hands-on and interactive training exploring Teaching Methodology and Integrative Practice and Teaching in each session, in every practice. The students will teach in front of the group and thoroughly discuss and explore the practice from various views (physical, energetic, injurious and mental views) to create a full understanding of the practicing, teaching and assisting of these Yin and Yang yoga practices. Pre-requisites 100-hour Yin TT with Mysan Sidbo successfully completed Textbooks and study material Each student is required to bring with them the following study material: Yin Yoga; Principles and Practice, Paul Grilley. Yoga and the Luminous, Christopher Key Chapple Atlas of Anatomy, General Anatomy and the Musculoskeletal System published by Thieme (Either the first or second edition of this atlas will be ok) The Complete Guide to Yin Yoga, Bernie Clarke, White Cloud Press. Email thesanctuary108@gmail.com Anatomy and Physiology 50 Hours (30 hours Foundation Anatomy and Physiology + 20 hours Functional Anatomy) 30 hours of foundation Anatomy and Physiology The first component of anatomy is a 30-hour foundation course where we develop a thorough understanding of the parts musculoskeletal system from the bones and out to the muscles. 20 Hours of Advanced Functional Anatomy Having the foundation of human anatomy we can now further look at the individual ways of how we are all unique and putting this uniqueness into our yoga teaching, poses and practice. What is functional anatomy? A way to see the body/being as a whole system – how it all interlinks and interpenetrates for each unique individual. We all have a unique skeleton that works in our own individual way so our asana needs to be aligned with our uniqueness. What happens to us physically will affect us emotionally and energetically and what happens to us emotionally and energetically will affect us physically. This functional anatomy course is set up to get us, teachers, to be able to give each individual student more benefit in their practice. Hopefully, we will start to look at our students as an individual and be able to give them the support needed for them in each and every asana. “Teach what is appropriate for each individual.” (Tirumalai Krishnamacharya) Yogic Physiology 30 Hours In this component, the emphasis is on gaining understanding and awareness about energy, energy fields and the Universal connection that our yoga practice aim to move us towards understanding. “When one rises above the three gunas that originate in the body; one is freed from birth, old age, disease, and death; and attains enlightenment” (Bhagavad Gita 14.20). Through this component, we will look at the history of the tantric yoga ways to understand and gain insight into these energy systems. Throughout this teacher training, our main yogic text is the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali that we aim to tie into any of the teachings here appropriate. Living our yoga on and off the mat. Philosophy, Ethics and Lifestyle 50 Hours Living our yoga mindfully and consciously off and on the mat continuous all the way through the training and a big part of it is our study of yogic philosophies. Theory and Practice of Yoga Techniques 170 Hours Chanting, meditation, pranayama and asana will be practised daily each time we meet as a group. We will explore and learn basic chants and the meaning and purpose of them. throughout the training, we will provide a new level to our meditation practice that is guided by an experienced teacher. We will explore pranayama and understand the importance of it as well as experiencing a variety of pranayama techniques such as Ujjayi, Kapalabhati, Viloma and Bhastrika. Additionally, it is required for each teacher trainee to establish a home practice as well as practising at a studio, guided by a teacher, at least 3 times per week. This component is theoretical, practical, as well as guided by teachers. It is important to feel the practice for the trainee themselves as well as understanding the theory behind it and being educated from experienced teachers. The Theory and Practice of Yoga Techniques, of course, goes hand in hand with Teaching Methodology. Teaching Methodology 60 hours and Integrative Practice and Teaching 40 Hours During the entire training, there will be an ongoing study involving observing classes, asanas, teaching ways, demonstrating practices, assisting and adjusting sessions.
